SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2009, The birth of an IDEA!!
Mauthen, the village my Father loves above all other locations on this planet, situated third from the Sun. I have grown up hearing about his adventures as a child - a little bit like Huckleberry Finn for the Americans, Ludwig Thomas' Lausbubengeschichten, but somewhat less of the scroundel antics of the Australian Ned Kelly - along with the colourful history of this village, nestled in the Carnic Alps, on the northern border of Italy.
The history of the village has been extensively documented in German, but nothing much has been chronicled in English. This is a beginning, what middle it will lead to, and what end, if any, remains to be seen.
Along the way there may even be a few tales relating to my Father's time in Australia, then again maybe another blog is reserved for those experiences.
Here we will commence with the experiences of a valued person and a valued place.
